Beth Williams offers private hatha yoga classes for all levels. Also check with Beth for classes offered in the Newport and Lincoln City area. She teaches Gentle yoga classes for those wanting light stretching with comfortable poses, and focus on proper breathing. No inverted poses will be taught in this class.

A Beginners class is offered for those wanting to learn the 12 basic asanas (poses). The focus will be on proper alignment and breathing in these poses. Variations to poses are also taught and you are encouraged to move at your own pace. Sun Salutations will be introduced in this class.

An Intermediate class is also available for those that are ready for more of a challenge. More poses will be added and focusing on headstand and other advanced poses. As with all classes, variations to poses will be taught.

An All levels class is appropriate for beginners and intermediate level students. Variations will be given as needed. This class is great for beginners to learn from the intermediate levels. And on the flip side, is good for intermediate level students to relearn some of the basics.

All classes begin with a centering and end with a 10 minute guided relaxation.

Strike a Pose
Half Spinal Twist or Ardha Matsyendrasana
1. Kneel down with your legs together, resting on your heels.

2. Then sit to the right of your feet.

3. Lift your left leg over your right leg, placing your foot against the outside of the right knee. Bring your right heel in close to your bottom. Keep the spine erect.

4. Lift your left arm up next to the left ear, twist to the left, place the left hand down on the floor behind you.

5. Now bring the right arm down on the outside of the left knee and hold the left foot in the right hand. With each inhalation feel the spine lengthen up high and with each exhalation, feel yourself twisting to the left as you look over your left shoulder.
Benefits of the Half Spinal Twist

The Spinal Twist is one of the few poses in the Basic Session that rotates the spine. Most bend the spinal column either backward or forward, but to become truly flexible it must be twisted laterally as well. The movement also tones the spinal nerves and ligaments, and improves digestion. The Half Spinal Twist has similar benefits and prepares the body for the full pose. Keep your spine erect and your shoulders level in the position and breathe steadily, twisting a little more each time you exhale. Twist first to the left then repeat the sequence to the right.
